[Day 1] Summer Camp 2025 Highlights

ree

This year’s summer camp brought together nearly 25 children from different care homes and close to 50 participants in total—making it the largest camp we have ever hosted. Over two days, the children learned, played, and connected in ways that left lasting smiles and new friendships.

Day 1 – Celebration of Learning & Building New Friendships

The first day began with an air of excitement as the children gathered to showcase the projects they had been working on during our weekly and monthly inquiry sessions. In an exhibition-style presentation, they stood before their peers, sponsors, and volunteers to share social entrepreneurship-themed posters they had created. For many, it was a challenge, as it was their first time speaking and showcasing such work in front of everyone. However, all the children did an amazing job presenting their wonderful projects.

After the presentations, the scent of sizzling burgers filled the air as our partners at JICEF guided the children through making their own American-style hamburgers. Each child shaped, cooked, and assembled their own, delighting in the process before enjoying them together.

In the afternoon, the gym transformed into a life-sized board game on environmental conservation. Children learned about topics like recycling, endangered animals, and reducing waste while rolling giant dice and moving across a colorful game board. Many left inspired to use eco-bags, turn off lights, and reduce trash in their own daily lives, as they mentioned in their end-of-day reflection.

But the day’s most talked-about moment came last—the dodgeball match between the children and adults. At first, the adults seemed to have the upper hand, but the children fought back with teamwork and determination. The score ended as a tie, leaving the decision of the winner to the next camp program that we have.

As the day closed, the children reflected on what they had learned—from environmental responsibility to the importance of communication and cooperation.
