Over the weekend, as part of our ongoing unit on animal conservation, our Discovery Day program took us on an exciting trip to the zoo!
In the past few weeks, the children have been working on a “Call to Action” video project, raising awareness about the harmful effects of littering on animals. During this Discovery Day, they had the opportunity to film with smartphones—capturing powerful moments in nature that they’ll later incorporate into their final videos.
One of the most touching moments came when a child approached one of our volunteer staff and said, “In the future, I want to be like you guys. I want to support and give opportunities to children as well.”
This heartfelt message reminded us that the impact of our work goes beyond helping children discover themselves or gain independence—it’s also about being the kind of role models they aspire to become.
The day was filled with exploration, learning, and joy as children, care workers, and volunteers bonded through shared experiences in nature.
We’re excited to see the children's creativity come to life as they begin editing their footage in the upcoming inquiry sessions!

About Discovery Day:
Our Discovery Day Program empowers children to take the lead in designing real-world learning experiences connected to the topics they explore in inquiry sessions. Using a rotation system, each orphanage group researches, plans, and selects a destination for all participating homes. This collaborative approach fosters independence, ownership, and cross-home friendships.
